Applies to
- Adults with a thyroid nodule on diagnostic ultrasound
Does not apply to
- Pediatric patients (use pediatric criteria)
- Nodules with prior FNA — correlate with cytology instead
- Diffuse thyroid disease without a discrete nodule

Thyroid volume

Lobe volume = 0.529 × length × width × depth (isthmus excluded). Normal upper limit ≈18 mL (women), ≈25 mL (men).
Ellipsoid volume
Volume of an ellipsoid lesion or organ from three orthogonal diameters.
